15th Episode: "The Last To Know"

Budget cuts mean that one of the ASCANS will not be allowed to graduate.

Bull's high spirits over his impending dinner date with Andrea Wyler are quickly deflated when he gets the grim news that the government is once again asking for steep cuts -- in personnel. The awful reality is that just days before their graduation, one of the ASCANS will have to be cut as the number of new astronauts must be reduced. It is the terrible duty of Bull, Riles and Reggie to review each candidate's folder and make the decision as to who it will be.

Blissfully unaware of impending doom, Barbara, D.B., Peter and Zeke raise glasses at the Moonshot in celebration of their upcoming graduation while they speculate on the likelihood of Bull and Andrea getting together. Meanwhile, newscaster Faith Daniels prepares a story on the astronauts of tomorrow focused on the graduating ASCAN class, with each member sharing special talents and memories with her while Bull relieves his own special memories of his students.

When Ms. Daniels discovers news of the cut and leaks it to the ASCANS, this bomb shatters their world as they wait to see upon whom the ax will fall. Bull must then confirm the bad news as he, Riles and Reggie angrily go through their painful task of reviewing each student. At last they choose and give that person the news and their pin, for this at least has been earned.

At the grand ceremony, featuring astronaut legend Buzz Aldrin and NASA director Jay Honeycutt giving graduation speeches, there is one seat unjustly empty.
